Wells was a decent writer and saw and described many things that we all see as being great evils. The solutions that he championed have not appeared to have made the world richer, safer and more humane, and by all appearances and measurment criteria it seems they have made the world a darker, more oppressive and much, much more turbulent place. I would propose that he sought to solve problems to set people free where he should have worked to set people free to solve their own problems. But I have been told that I am an un-reconciled libertarian (or a cold hearted Objectivist).
